Green Funerals and Green Burial

Corley Funeral Home is the leading provider of eco-friendly funerals and green burial services to the environmentally-aware residents of Navarro and surrounding counties as well as those living in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. This requires us to be very knowledgeable about the green burial movement, green funerals and the issues related to green burial in the region. All of which means Corley Funeral Home is the logical choice for anyone who wants to "go green" when making funeral arrangements. If you're such a person, we'd like you to call us at 903-874-3755 to explore your "greener" funeral service options in greater depth. But if you're just becoming aware of green funerals and green burial and need to know more, we encourage you to read on.

Corley's Greener Options

The staff of Corley Funeral Home is proud to be one of only two Texas funeral homes listed in the roster of the greener funeral and burial providers affiliated with AGreenerFuneral.org. In order to retain our status as a partnering funeral home, we must continually demonstrate our strong "commitment to greener funeral care by offering families a selection of meaningful, environmentally-sustainable services and products".  We take that one step further; not only do we offer such a selection; which includes burial shrouds, environmentally-friendly caskets and  biodegradable urns, we make sure the related costs are affordable. Our list of environmentally-friendly services includes green funerals, green burial, and greener cremation.

Whatever your funeral service choices, Corley’s will help you "go green’". We are here to create and carry out a meaningful ritual experience that honors your needs and expectations. Call us today at 903-874-3755 to get the "greener" conversation started.

What is a Green Funeral?

At death, the final rite of passage, we use ritual to celebrate, honor and preserve the memory of a life. A green funeral is generally any end-of-life ritual that is as harmless as possible for the environment. After the eco-friendly funeral, you can arrange for a green burial in what is called a "natural" or green cemetery; or arrange for cremation. Many environmentally-conscious families today seek a mix of traditional and green funeral options. It is for this reason Corley Funeral Home offers regional families green burial options and eco-friendly funerals.

Corley's Green Funeral Options

A green funeral is any end-of-life ritual that is as harmless as possible for the environment. Here at Corley's, we like to say our eco-friendly funerals are traditional but include a higher number of environmentally-friendly products and services, chosen expressly to leave a smaller carbon footprint than what can be achieved normally.

Greener funeral practices are commonly compatible with the spiritual traditions of the major religions. The brochure "A Greener Funeral", published by our partner organization AGreenerFuneral.org, notes that both Judaism and Islam "have traditionally called for shrouds or simple wooden caskets and no embalming." It also notes Hinduism and Buddhism both allow cremation, while traditionally, Judaism and Islam do not." It is advised you speak with your clergyperson to confirm green funeral practices are aligned with your spiritual tenets. For specific information on Corley's environmentally-conscious funeral services, please read Eco-Friendly Funerals or call us at 903-874-3755.

Our Greener Burial Options

What is green burial? The Green Burial Council describes green burial as "a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat." Here at Corley's we can arrange for:

  • an immediate burial with or without a viewing or ceremony (or a memorial at a later date).

  • a natural burial with or without a viewing followed by a memorial service.

While there are two dedicated natural burial grounds in the state (see the Additional Resources and Links section); many area families wanting greener options have already purchased property in local conventional cemeteries. Fortunately, even if you intend burial in a conventional cemetery, we can still arrange for a greener, more "natural" burial. (For additional details on our green burial services, please read Eco-Friendly Funerals.)

For an inside look at green burial, we suggest reading "Green Burial: It's Only Natural", published by the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC); and written by Joe Sehee, the founder of the Green Burial Council.

Corley's Greener Cremation

When compared with conventional burial (which usually includes a metal or hardwood casket and necessitates embalming), cremation is already a relatively green alternative. And today's advances in modern cremator design ensure they burn more efficiently and filter combustion gases. Our staff can assist in making what it already "green" just that much greener by:

  • supplying a "green" cremation container and/or biodegradable urn.

  • arranging an immediate cremation without a viewing or ceremony (or a memorial service at a later date).

  • planning for a cremation with a viewing and/or ceremony using green options (casket, shroud, no embalming, green urn).

Corley's Greener Merchandise Options

When you visit our showroom, you'll find a wide array of environmentally-friendly merchandise, each handpicked by our staff for its quality and value. We offer:

Also, we provide every family we serve a complimentary online paperless guest book, where we will publish your loved one's obituary. These are really tribute "mini-sites", which allow your family and friends to upload photographs, send messages of condolences, and shared family stories.

Corley's: Where "Green" is Done Right

Corley Funeral Home has a long history of service to the families and individuals living in North Central Texas. our heritage spans 137 years; and during that time, we've been highly responsive to the subtle shifts in American society as a whole; as well as those in the local communities we have come to know so well.  Responding to the growing environmental-consciousness of those living in our region, Corley Funeral Home, in response to the growing environmental-consciousness of those living in our region, is one of only two funeral homes in the entire state to be committed to "greener" funeral services. Call us at 903-874-3755 to learn what we can do for you.
